The Winners Will Each Receive $25,000 to Support Community-Enhancement Projects.

NORWALK, Conn.–( BUSINESS WIRE )–HomeServe USA announced today the first-ever winners of the HomeServe Cares Foundation’s (HSCF) Caring for Community grant program. The initiative, launched earlier this year, awards grants to non-profits and municipalities to support community-based programs.

The first grant winner is Rochester, New York-based The Arc of Monroe County, a non-profit that provides support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The organization operates 30 residences in the Rochester area, supporting more than 1,400 adults with disabilities through residential, vocational, day habilitation, clinical, guardianship and service coordination programs. The HSCF Caring for Community grant of $25,000 will be used to enhance and improve the conditions for residents in one of The Arc’s residential facilities with a focus on remodeling an aging bathroom to make it more accessible.

“We believe that The Arc of Monroe embodies the goals of our HomeServe Cares Foundation by placing people at the heart of everything they do,” said HomeServe CEO John Kitzie. “They truly make a meaningful impact in the community they serve, and we’re pleased to be able to support them in enhancing the living conditions for their residents.”

The second winner is the City of Tampa, Florida Parks and Recreation Department whose mission is to provide and preserve quality parks and recreation opportunities for all. The HSCF Caring for Community grant of $25,000 will fund the installation of ADA-compliant beach mats that extend from the parking lot to the high tide mark at three beach locations in order to provide access for mobility challenged locals and visitors.

“This project ensures that everyone is given the same opportunities to enjoy the amenities the City of Tampa has to offer,” explained Kitzie. “The Park and Recreation Department’s goal to provide accessibility and inclusion exemplifies what it means to improve the quality of life for the people they serve. What’s more, the beaches are located in a major veteran population center, which means that this project will also have a great impact on ensuring veterans have full access to the area’s beautiful beaches.”
