Serving 1.3 million residential customers in the southern two-thirds of the state, Alabama Power’s top commitment is taking care of customers, and its key goals are to provide reliable electricity, offer energy-savings programs, services and education, and find ways to better serve its communities and citizens. HomeServe’s solutions and values are closely aligned with those of Alabama Power and, through an offer of optional protection to homeowners, our partnership can help to augment important programs that make a positive impact on the communities served by the utility.

Home protection plans address crucial needs for homeowners. HomeServe’s annual State of the Home Survey consistently demonstrates that home repair emergencies are prevalent and, when they occur, homeowners are often unsure of who is responsible and who to call for assistance. Many are also financially unprepared. In the most recent survey, 70% of homeowners reported having one or more home repair emergencies in the past 12 months. Compounding the problem, 14% reported having no funds set aside for an emergency home repair and 31% said they have $500 or less or nothing set aside for an unexpected repair.

Alabama Power customers will be offered optional protection for a wide range of home lines and systems, including exterior and interior electric and gas lines, exterior water and sewer service lines, heating and cooling systems and water heaters, as well as protection for consumer electronics devices and damage from electrical surges. Repairs will be handled by HomeServe’s exceptional licensed, local contractors, including Alabama Power preferred trade allies, ensuring an outstanding customer experience and increasing opportunities for local businesses.

The protection plan program includes a revenue share to the utility, which can be dedicated to utility programs. Alabama Power has been widely recognized for its deep commitment to customers, neighbors, communities and those in need in Alabama. The utility’s community service, driven by the Alabama Power Foundation, includes extensive employee and retiree volunteerism and a wide range of economic development, environmental and diversity initiatives.

Funding from protection plans can help to support these important programs.
