Sewer line insurance available in East Stroudsburg
May 18, 2012

East Stroudsburg Borough is introducing an optional, low-cost sewer line insurance program for all borough homeowners. The program is being provided through the National League of Cities Service Line Warranty Program.

“Many residents are unaware that they are responsible for the sewer line that goes from their house to the point of utility maintenance in the street. If this line breaks, leaks or gets blocked, repairs can be very expensive,” Borough Manager Jim Phillips said.

The new program will offer warranty protection to help cover the costs of a line repair. The cost for residents is $5.95 per month, and will cover sewer line repairs up to $4,000, plus an additional allowance of $4,000 if excavating of a public street is needed. The program includes a 24-hour repair hotline. Work will be performed by certified, local technicians. The program is offered at no cost to the borough, and no public funds are being used to promote the program, officials said.
