The National League of Cities City Summit will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20, through Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, and the NLC Service Line Warranty Program team will be in attendance.
In addition to being available at the Savings and Solutions Pavilion in the exposition hall throughout the conference to discuss the service line warranty program that offers emergency sewer repairs and water repairs, our team will be sponsoring events and speaking at several sessions.
The NLC Service Line Warranty Program educates homeowners in your community about their responsibility to maintain water and sewer service lines to their homes, providing educational materials in cooperation with local governments and mailing them to residents at no charge to municipalities. In addition, homeowners can purchase optional, affordable emergency home repair plans that utilize local plumbers and keep dollars in the local economy. These sewer repair services and water line repairs offer residents peace of mind.
As a silver sponsor of City Summit, the Program will sponsor the new member and first-time attendee breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at the convention center’s Room 304. Everyone who attends will receive a voucher for a free copy of Jim Hunt’s book, “The Amazing City: 7 Steps to Create an Amazing City.” Jim, the former mayor of Clarksburg, W.Va., and a past NLC president, also is the author of “Bottom Line Green: How America’s Cities are Saving the Planet (And Money Too!)” and a service line warranty program advisor.
Ashley Shiwarski, Business Development Director, will speak at the prospective member lunch from noon to 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the convention center’s Room 225B. The NLC Membership team will discuss the benefits of membership, including the constituency groups and savings and solutions programs. Ashley will discuss the benefits of the Service Line Warranty Program and how participating in the program can help municipalities cover NLC dues, in addition to offering emergency sewer repairs and water line repairs.
The Program team also will host a Western-themed reception and game night, open to all those attending City Summit, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday at the Lone Star Salon A. This event will feature an Old West photo booth, a Will Rogers-style trick roper and games of round-up roller roper. In addition to free food and games, all those attending will be entered in a drawing to win a donation for the charity of their choice. Frequent Service Line Warranty Program collaborator and advisor, Christie Myers, Opportunity Dallas managing director, will speak at the Democratic Municipal Officials breakfast meeting from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Friday at Lone Star Salons D, E and F. Christie has served with the Mayor’s Neighbor Up Dallas Organization, the Mayor’s Rising Star Council, District 10 Councilman Adam McGough’s AllInD10 Collective Impact Initiative, the Dallas Regional Chamber and Dallas Independent School District. Through her work with Opportunity Dallas, she is collaborating with the University of North Texas at Dallas and Paul Quinn College to establish the EdCor Integrated Health Clinic in South Dallas.
Jim Hunt also will speak at the University Communities Council Meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday in the convention center’s Room 221C. Jim has spent more than two decades working in municipalities as a councilman and mayor. He has also served on several municipal organizations, being a past president of the West Virginia Municipal League and a member of the World Council and Executive Committee of United Cities and Local Governments.
Jim also will be moderating the Large Cities Forum at 4 p.m. Friday, appearing alongside Baltimore Council President Brandon Scott, Mesa Councilmember David Luna and Cleveland Councilmember Phyllis Cleveland.
Brian Davis, national accounts director, will speak at the Large Cities Council meeting from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Friday at the convention center’s Room 225A. Brian will discuss the benefits of the Service Line Warranty Program and how participating in the program can help municipalities assist low-income homeowners in need of emergency sewer repairs and water line repairs.

NLC Service Line Warranty Program partners with municipalities to educate homeowners and offer affordable protection against potentially costly service line repairs. The Program uses a network of local plumbers who have gone through background and drug screenings. The Program’s 500-seat call center is staffed 24/7/365 to answer claims calls and dispatch contractors to address homeowners’ emergencies.
The Program is provided at no cost to cities, and partner cities can receive royalties based on participation.
