Through a partnership with ServLine, a Pine-Strawberry Water District customer was saved from a $630 water bill caused by a leak at her cabin in Gila County, Arizona. The cabin, which she and her extended family used for weekend getaways and hunting trips, was frequently in use. As a result, it never occurred to her to shut off the water when the cabin was unoccupied.

“I don’t shut the water off because I go back and forth to the Valley,” she explained. “When I got up there, I heard the toilet running, and it had never done that before. I don’t think anyone had been there, so no one would have been using the water.”

Barbara called a plumber to investigate the issue. After replacing the handle and flapper didn’t resolve the problem, she ultimately replaced the entire toilet to prevent further leaks. However, when she received her next water bill, she was hit with more bad news—her bill from the Pine-Strawberry Water Improvement District was over $630 higher than her average.

She contacted the utility to explore her options for managing the unexpectedly high bill. Fortunately, the utility offered the ServLine Leak Protection Program through a partnership with HomeServe. Barbara was encouraged to file a claim with ServLine to cover the $630 overage.

“It was a nice surprise,” she said. “I didn’t know how it worked, so I talked to someone at ServLine. They told me I needed to have a plumber fix the leak and provide the bill. They said I’d hear back from the adjuster in a week, but within two days, they called me back and said, ‘This is the amount we are going to cover.’ I was very impressed with how quickly it was handled. For something so stressful, it was resolved very matter-of-factly, quickly, and conveniently.”

Barbara was so pleased with the service that she shared her experience with others in the area.

“My cousin also has a place up there, and I told my cousin and other friends who have places up there,” she said. “I was so impressed—it was handled so well.”
