Little Rock Residents Have Saved $1.7 million with the Service Program

Little Rock, AR – January 4, 2022 – Three years ago, the City of Little Rock began offering residents the opportunity to sign up for service plans that protect against the cost and inconvenience of emergency repairs to the water service line that connects their homes to city systems. The program also provides additional protection for in-home plumbing and water heaters.

Since the program, run through Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA), began in September 2018, 4,400 Little Rock residents have signed up for an optional SLWA service plan, with many signing up for more than one. The program has helped participating Little Rock homeowners with 1,813 repairs or replacements, saving them $1.7 million in out-of-pocket repair expenses that were all completed by licensed and qualified local contractors.

In September, Little Rock resident Anthony commented, “This is the second time we’ve used the service within a one-year period. The first time was due to a failed connection between the water line and the copper line at the home. The second time was due to a break in the old water line (about 30 years old) a few feet from the meter. Contractors were on site to repair within 48 hours and in the latter case the entire water line was replaced. Our cost…zero dollars. The Service Line Warranty saved me over $5,000 this year!”

“We entered into this partnership to help protect our customers who might not be aware that they are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the service lines on their property,” said Kevin Howard, Director of Housing and Neighborhood Programs. “The City of Little Rock’s water infrastructure is aging, just like the rest of the nation’s, and as homeowners in the area are discovering, their exterior pipes must be repaired or replaced. This program with SLWA gives our residents an option to manage it, and it’s good for the community, too.”

Homeowners will soon receive updated information in the mail about the available optional plans. There is no obligation to sign up for a plan and participation in the program is voluntary. The mailings will include the logo of the City of Little Rock to indicate that the mailing is legitimate and that there is a partnership in place between Little Rock and SLWA. The program is provided at no cost to Little Rock and no public funds are used to promote or administer it.

“When a homeowner’s water line breaks, it can be an overwhelming situation. Suddenly, you’re looking at hundreds or even thousands of dollars for a problem you probably didn’t even know existed the day before,” said Tom Rusin, CEO of HomeServe NA, parent company of SLWA. “While we can’t prevent pipes from leaking, we’re here to relieve Little Rock homeowners of the stress of finding and scheduling a qualified contractor and the cost of completing the repair. We’re proud to offer this service and be a part of the Little Rock community.”
